NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he loved gambling on different card games when he was young. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he would play countless hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.

The real improvement in his game began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would regularly play against one another. Howard was able to access several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his logical thinking skills. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker world today. He moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the following decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
