Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
