Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
