Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. The actual improvement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would regularly play against one another. He had access into several of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
