Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked playing different card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he would play many hours and fail to win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.
The definite improvement in his game began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would often compete against one another. He was able to access several of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
