Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
